Dr Gary Groenewald is a board certified gynaecologist and obstetrician who has spent the years subsequent to his specialist qualification pursuing excellence in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery. He has special interests in endometriosis; hysterectomy; fibroids; ovarian cysts; pelvic pain and various pelvic floor disorders.
Dr Groenewald is a highly skilled laparoscopic surgeon and is one of the first South African gynaecologists to gain accreditation from the European Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy as a certified minimally invasive gynaecological surgeon.
He has been in private practice at Life Kingsbury hospital for the past 3 years and is still actively involved in academic medicine as a part time specialist at Groote Schuur hospital’s Department of Urogynaecology.
Graduating from the University of Stellenbosch undergraduate medical program in 2003, Dr Groenewald has trained in the major tertiary hospitals of the Western Cape. After a stint as a ship’s doctor in the merchant navy he returned to the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur hospital where he completed his specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2013. Here he has trained under some of the leading experts in his field. He is currently completing a Masters degree in bleeding in pregnancy.
Dr Groenewald is committed to providing healthcare of the highest quality to women of all backgrounds in our community and remains active in academic medicine. This is reflected in his continuous involvement as a sessional specialist at Groote Schuur and New Somerset hospitals. Here he supervises and mentors medical students and specialist gynaecologists in training.
Dr Groenewald is an active member of a multitude of gynaecological societies and has lectured as an invited speaker at various local and international congresses.
